Methods of Transporting Shipments

 Ocean Shipment
Ideal for articles not needed immediately after arriving at the destination, or weighty or voluminous ones.
This method takes more days to deliver. Please consider your date of assignment and other schedules when preparing your packages.

 Air Shipment
Usually called unaccompanied baggage. It is delivered sooner than by ocean shipment.
Include articles immediately needed after arrival at your destination.

 Accompanied Baggage
Your in-flight carry-on baggage is limited to 20kg per person for the Economy class.
A fee is assessed for excess baggage.

 Domestic Storage Shipment
Please consider the storage space and other factors before sorting out the baggage you are leaving behind.

Please also note the following.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Remove batteries for ocean shipment. The liquid inside the batteries may leak.
* Do not pack heat-sensitive (soluble) foods.
* Remove price tags and wrappers from new products.
* Have clothes dry-cleaned or laundered in preparation for packing.
* Set aside documents you need to carry for travel, e.g., passports, so as to avoid mixing them with baggage to be shipped.
* Use cans and plastic containers for liquids, including food items, and avoid glass bottles.
* Make sure you carry software CDs and DVDs with you.
* Please contact us in advance for shipment of animals and plants, as application filing, quarantine, and other complicated procedures are required prior to shipment.
* Hose dirt completely off garden tools, golf clubs, and bicycle tires (the smallest amount of dirt found will be subject to immediate quarantine).
* Carry alcohol and tobacco products with you (all unaccompanied goods will be taxed).
* Completely clear the dirt and dust inside vacuum cleaners. Completely remove dust from carpets.
* Pack all foods together.

The Relocation Process

(1) Informal Appointment to a New Post
We recommend that you prepare a notebook or file for documenting relocation related information.

(2) Baggage Sorting
Please divide your belongings to articles to be shipped (carry-ons, air shipment, and ocean shipment), and those to be left behind (at home, storage facilities, and articles to be disposed of).

(3) Preliminary Inspection of Your Baggage
Our staff will visit your home to confirm the content and volume of your baggage, and to explain the pickup schedule.

(4) Packing and Pickup
Our staff will visit your home to pack your baggage. You will receive a packing list created during the packing process as a receipt for your baggage (please instruct us on how your baggage should be sorted to avoid misshipment).

(5) Exterior Packing and Loading
Cartons brought into our warehouse are packed in wooden cases, marked with your name and destination, and loaded for export customs clearance.

(6) Forwarding of Shipping Documents
We will forward the bill of lading (B/L) and other documents directly to the agency at the destination.
We will send you the shipment schedule, which describes the ship's schedule and the destination agency's address.

(7) Import Customs Clearance at Destination and Delivery
Upon arrival of your baggage at the destination port, the destination agency will process the customs clearance and deliver your baggage on the day you specified.
* For Australian import customs clearance, Form 6534: Declaration for Unaccompanied Goods is required.

Insurance

Overseas relocations are usually covered for All Risks. Coverage of your baggage starts when we receive it from you in Japan, until our branch office or agency releases it to your custody at your destination home or a location specified by you.
We will take care of all procedures relating to your insurance.
If you find any damage on your baggage after delivery at your destination, please contact the insurance agency and our branch office or agency immediately. We will assist you in the procedures including claim filing.

Documents Required for Making a Claim
 * Insurance statement (with monetary amounts shown)
 * A copy of the B/L (bill of lading)
 * Certificate of insurance
 * Certificate of accident
 * Inspection report if a specialist performed inspection by order of the insurance company
 * An estimate for repair of the damaged goods

Although the insurance company and the content of the contract determine the period during which a claim can be made, it is more advantageous to do so sooner than later.
